AI Didn't Kill Writing: Self-Published Rust Book Sells Record 12 Copies in a Week
CtrlAltDwayne · x · 2026-10-09
Self-publishing author @CtrlAltDwayne shares a counterintuitive observation: despite fears that AI would kill writing, his book Rust for JavaScript Developers — drafted back in 2021 and only recently finished — has been selling unusually well on Leanpub, moving an unprecedented 12 copies in a single week.
He speculates that developers are suddenly pivoting to Rust, and while he admits he has no proof beyond sales, the spike is a signal of skill migration in the AI era. For indie creators, it's also a case study: niche long-tail technical books can still find demand when a technology trend hits.
