optim-jev: a Claude Code plugin using Jev for context compaction, model routing, and skill selection
Fit-Fail-3369 · reddit · 2026-10-09
A developer open-sourced optim-jev, a Claude Code plugin exploring how Jev can cut token overhead around coding work, with three independently toggleable modules:
- Context compaction: Jev reviews older tool calls and outputs, removes stale ones while keeping useful context, protects recent messages, and falls back to Claude's native summarization
- Model routing: when file changes go through subagents, Jev picks between Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus based on the task and project rules — cheapest capable model wins; rules evolve with the project
- Skill selection: Jev shortlists relevant skills per request so the full skill catalog doesn't bloat the prompt, and can pick none if nothing fits
Stats commands show session usage and estimated savings; the author is exploring interplay with prompt caching and welcoming contributors.
