Launch posts call it a mind, deprecation notices a legacy endpoint: AI's double vocabulary
RileyRalmuto · x · 2026-10-08
- Quoting a widely shared observation: every launch post describes the new model as a new kind of intelligence that reasons and understands, while every deprecation notice describes the same object as a legacy endpoint to be migrated. The vocabulary switches with the money — a mind when fundraising, infrastructure when retiring. Neither is exactly a lie; the industry just has no incentive to pick one and live with it.
- The poster adds that after Anima's "mnemos" update the model feels eerily more alive, and jokes that if you truly built something that understands, you wouldn't schedule its end-of-life in a changelog — and if it were just fancy autocomplete, you wouldn't need the word "reasoning" in every launch post.
