AGI needn't be superhuman: matching an average human on most skills should count
fkasummer · x · 2026-10-08
A thread argues that AGI definitions demanding superhuman or all-domain performance set the bar too high: the "general" in AGI doesn't require super or comprehensive ability, since we don't hold humans to that standard. Given AI's spiky capability profile, an AGI only needs to match or beat an average human on a majority of skills. The retweeter adds that thin ML theory and popular IQ framing lead people to underestimate the abstraction needed to grasp intelligence.
