theo challenges Sentry CEO: same AI coding tasks now over 10x cheaper than a year ago
theo · x · 2026-10-08
Sentry CEO David Cramer (@zeeg) argued that a task achievable 12 months ago costs nowhere near two orders of magnitude less today, since compute hasn't gotten drastically cheaper. theo pushed back: the coding workflow itself transformed from "highlight text, cmd+k, read the code by hand" to "hey Claude, figure it out." He offered to turn any real task from 12 months ago into a benchmark and demonstrate it's over 10x cheaper to complete now. A pointed public exchange between two well-known builders over whether AI intelligence is actually collapsing in price.
