The maintainer of Google Workspace MCP has released v2 and written a retrospective on the project's journey from a learning exercise to one of the most popular open-source MCP servers, grown largely through the r/mcp community.
The core challenge: a project aimed at LLM usage inherently attracts AI-heavy users, so keeping a quality bar while accepting as many feature requests and PRs as possible without accumulating slop is hard. He still reads every PR himself, but most of his workflow is now a two-part adversarial code review with Claude Code & Codex plus automated CodeRabbit reviews. He also used AI to assemble the article's statistics, and the post includes a chart tracking the timeline of models and coding harnesses along the way.
