Engineer Pushes Back on AI Code Analogy: Topology-Optimized Parts Look Cool but Are Unusable
rms80 · x · 2026-10-08
A viral post argued that once AI surpasses humans at math, it will also outdesign algorithms and codebases, leaving the code layer free of human comprehension — only tests, verification and AI-queried explanations would matter. Engineer rms80 offered a sharp counterpoint: topology-optimized parts are mostly "cool-demo-but-unusable-in-practice," because real-world requirements and constraints can't be fully expressed in a form the computer understands. The analogy, he suggests, may cut the other way for AI-written codebases.
