Google Cloud launches Modernize portfolio with agentic TCO estimator for legacy migration
rseroter · x · 2026-10-08
Google Cloud announced Modernize, an end-to-end transformation portfolio bundling Migration Center, VMware Engine, mainframe modernization, and a new EKS-to-GKE Migration Agent. Its centerpiece, the in-console Modernization Hub, analyzes source code and maps dependencies for Java, .NET, and mainframe apps. The Gemini-powered Agentic Quick Estimator (GA) turns RVTools exports into Compute Engine TCO projections, letting teams model multi-region footprints and licensing tradeoffs in minutes instead of weeks. Author rseroter cautions AI makes modernization easier but not easy — dependency discovery, stack choices, and transactional sameness still take real work.
