LangChain engineer built an ACP coding agent that replaced Claude Code for 9 months

LangChain engineer Jacob Lee shares how he built his own coding agent by wiring the LangChain Deep Agents framework to Zed via an Agent Client Protocol (ACP) adapter. Uncomfortable handing his job to opaque third-party tools like Claude Code, he reasoned the harness and UX are "just software" he can control.
- The agent runs inside Zed via ACP; reviewing code with git worktrees while the agent works is, in his words, peak UX.
- It has been his daily driver for 9 months, fully replacing Claude Code, with full observability via LangSmith.
- The guest post (originally on JetBrains' blog) covers the architecture and setup steps so readers can replicate it.
