Eight CLAUDE.md rules to fix Claude Code's verbose, answer-burying replies
petburiraja · reddit · 2026-10-07
Claude Code often buries the actual answer in tool-by-tool recaps, process details and caveats. The author's fix: a block of reply rules in /.claude/CLAUDE.md — start with the answer or what changed, keep replies short by default, expand on request; skip tool recaps; answer questions in order; finish reversible work already requested without asking "Want me to?"; ask for a decision once and wait. The author notes the rules were added mid-session so there's no clean before/after comparison, and invites others to share their own CLAUDE.md lines for reducing reading effort. The full rule block is copy-paste ready.
