The consulting AI framework trap: prebuilt blueprints exist to bill customization hours
DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-10-07
The author critiques how every major consulting firm — McKinsey, Deloitte, Accenture, Capgemini, Infosys, TCS — now sells a 'prebuilt AI framework' and reference architecture promising a faster path to enterprise AI.
His argument: these frameworks exist to sell consulting hours. The out-of-the-box pitch hooks the client, then the firm bills endlessly to customize it; most of the gimmicks have no chance of working as advertised, costs balloon, and delivered value is questionable — making it one of the most expensive ways to build an AI system.
