Mathematicians open-source attempt to get Claude to finish Balaban's 4d Yang-Mills program
IAmTimNguyen · x · 2026-10-07
Mathematicians Ethan Sussman and Levent Alpoge have opened a public GitHub repo documenting an attempt to get Claude to complete/clarify Balaban's existence program for 4d Yang-Mills theory.
- The repo currently contains raw LaTeX documents and a zeroth-draft PDF
- Still under construction; the goal is a readable full manuscript
- The authors invite anyone to participate
- Framed as "open-source Yang-Mills slop" while the community waits for OpenAI's next release
An early, openly collaborative experiment in LLM-assisted frontier mathematics.
