Apple's October wave: HomePad hub, touchscreen MacBook, OLED iPad mini 8 and LG smart home gear
APPSO · wechat · 2026-10-07
APPSO rounds up Apple leaks for October and beyond:
- Smart home: Apple is co-developing wired video doorbell, smart lock, thermostat, sensors, and indoor/outdoor cameras with LG, sold under the LG brand with support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, Matter, and UWB unlock — echoing the UltraFine display partnership.
- HomePad: a 6-inch square touchscreen home hub that shows key info from afar, expands when you approach, and recognizes family members; the new Siri AI's ability to handle continuous commands will make or break it.
- Touchscreen MacBook: a long-press Dock animation in macOS 27.2 beta hints at touch; 14/16-inch models expected Oct–Nov with double-layer OLED, Dynamic Island, noticeably lighter bodies, and M5 Pro/Max chips.
- iPad mini 8: OLED panel, A20 Pro chip, 12GB RAM, repositioned front camera, N1 chip, possible first IP rating, arriving in October at a likely higher price.
- Org: new CEO John Ternus visits design studios multiple times weekly (Cook went monthly), flattens management layers, and wants to break away from concentrated spring/fall launches; Cook told him, "I know you're not like me."
