Enterprise AI rolls out backward: chatbots are the finish line, not the start

Reporting from Infor Velocity Week, the author argues most enterprise AI deployments start backward: asking business units "where do you want AI?" leads to turf wars and hallucination-prone chatbots.

Key idea: enterprise AI should start with the process, not the chatbot. Infor's Velocity Suite follows an AI hierarchy of Analytical > Predictive > Generative — AI should first analyze operational bottlenecks, then predict outcomes, with conversational interfaces last. Using ERP telemetry and process mining (bridging data gaps via MCP servers), discovery can happen in days instead of months of consulting workshops.
