OpenAI says no Codex usage endpoint is 'by design', leaving third-party devs without programmatic limit access
lucasmeijer · x · 2026-10-06
Developer lucasmeijer flagged two blockers for adding Sign in with ChatGPT to his open-source app: there's no usage endpoint to query limits, and his users see only 16 tokens/sec on sol6.1 and Astra despite recent promises of faster speeds. OpenAI's vigyso replied that the lack of a usage endpoint is by design — a single user may have multiple apps drawing down limits in realtime — and directed users to the official usage page instead.
