VC's College Advice for Parents: Obsession and Network Beat Skills
nick_linck · x · 2026-10-06
Investor nicklinck says parents keep asking how to advise their kids about college, and his answer is two words: obsession and network. Let kids explore domains broadly — health, entertainment, BCIs, etc. — until they find something they can obsess over for years, focusing on domains rather than skills like coding. Then find the people who obsess over the same topic and congregate where they do; strong relationships follow naturally. His conclusion: obsess over something, befriend fellow obsessives, and you can land almost any job in that space.
