The Decentralization Research Center published "Alternatives to Concentrated AI: A Layer-by-Layer Map of What Is Being Built," authored by head of research Samuel Vance-Law and executive director Kyle Bligen.
Over the past year, the team interviewed people building AI at frontier labs, universities, startups, and open-source nonprofits across five continents, mapping decentralized alternatives at each layer of the stack as counterweights to AI centralization.
