pg-jev open-source Postgres extension runs semantic filters and scoring inside SQL
Arindam_1729 · x · 2026-10-06
Developer Arindam shared pg-jev, an open-source Postgres extension that brings LLM-based semantic judgment directly into SQL, removing the round-trip of moving data to application code and writing results back.
- Four functions: jev() filters rows in WHERE, jevprob() returns a probability, jevchoice() picks a label, jevscore() ranks rows by ordered levels.
- No vector columns or embedding indexes needed: the extension batches rows to the model and returns typed answers you can filter, sort and group like normal results.
- Use cases: asking whether an article is about software engineering, how technical it is, etc.
The author also published a companion article, "10 Projects You Should Build with Jev", covering common mistakes developers make when applying it in real apps.
