Zauq, an open-source Apache 2.0 Discord AI assistant, releases v4 after a major rewrite aimed at being agentic without an uncontrolled plan→act→reflect loop.
Key changes:
- Bounded agent runtime: hard step limits, deadlines, resource budgets, duplicate-call protection
- MCP client support: dynamic tool discovery with guild scopes, allowlists, namespaces, risk classification
- Multi-provider: Gemini, Claude, Qwen, DeepSeek, DO APIs, Ollama, Kaggle — unified tool registry with schema validation, policy and timeouts
- Sandboxed code verification: Python/JS/Bash tested in Docker with off/auto/always modes; destructive actions require human approval
- Guiding principle: the model may choose a tool but is never the authority on whether it may execute — reasoning, authorization, execution kept separate
- Still VPS-friendly: no Redis/Celery/Chromium in default deployment
