OpenAI to test visual ads in ChatGPT: 1.2B weekly users, ads won't sway answers
Justgototheeffinmoon · reddit · 2026-10-05
OpenAI will first test the new visual ad format during image generation in ChatGPT. Ads will be clearly labeled, remain separate from the image being created, and "do not influence ChatGPT's answers," the company said.
OpenAI puts ChatGPT at 1.2 billion weekly users and frames ads as an additional revenue stream alongside paid plans. The measurement stack leans on existing adtech: Hightouch, Tealium and LiveRamp for conversion tracking; AppsFlyer, Adjust, Branch, Triple Whale and Kochava for attribution; DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science for brand suitability. Independent partners evaluating safeguards won't access private conversations, and safeguards are designed to prevent ads in emotionally vulnerable or sensitive conversations.
