Why neoclouds get acquired by outsiders, never by each other
AccBalanced · x · 2026-10-19
jessiedong and AccBalanced argue that neoclouds that can't raise enough money to keep buying GPUs and power will get bought — but almost never by other neoclouds. Buying a peer yields little: GPUs can be bought fresh from NVIDIA, data centers are rented (no power assets), and the acquirer inherits debt from GPU financing.
Recent deals are all cross-industry: Voltage Park merged into Lightning AI (software), Mistral acquired Koyeb (AI lab), Brookfield bought Ori (investment firm), and Rumble bought Northern Data Group (video site). For non-cloud companies, acquiring a neocloud is a shortcut to GPU capacity.
