OpenAI to test visual ads inside ChatGPT image generation, citing 1.2B weekly users

OpenAI will begin testing visual ads inside ChatGPT in the U.S. later this month, shown while users generate images, BleepingComputer reports. The format rolls out with an initial group of advertisers and may "use images to show product inspiration, how a product is used, or experiences associated with a service."
- Ads will be clearly labeled and kept separate from the generated image; OpenAI reiterated that "ads do not influence ChatGPT's answers."
- OpenAI put ChatGPT at 1.2 billion weekly users and frames advertising as a revenue stream alongside paid plans.
- The measurement stack leans on existing adtech: Hightouch, Tealium, LiveRamp (conversion tracking); AppsFlyer, Adjust, Branch, Triple Whale, Kochava (attribution); DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science (brand suitability).
- Independent evaluators won't access private conversations; safeguards aim to keep ads out of "emotionally vulnerable, sensitive, or otherwise unsuitable" conversations.
