TunnelGPT connects a local project folder to ChatGPT over MCP
carlosrodera · reddit · 2026-10-05
TunnelGPT connects a selected local folder to ChatGPT over MCP: reading is on by default, editing is opt-in. File tools operate only on the selected project and expose no arbitrary shell commands; writes require editing enabled plus per-change confirmation. The MIT-licensed core handles file ops, path controls, confirmed writes and a bounded local transport, while the desktop app, remote tunnel, accounts and multi-project routing live outside the repo — hosts must handle auth, user approval, isolation and remote access themselves.
Currently Apple Silicon Mac only, requiring Docker 24+ and relevant ChatGPT connector permissions; the machine must stay awake and online. Requested tool results go to OpenAI. The author notes these are documented capabilities, not a benchmark or token-savings claim.
