Most devs use Claude Code wrong: it's a 4-layer system of CLAUDE.md, Skills, Hooks and Agents

The author argues most developers treat Claude Code as a chat-style coding tool and miss its real power: a four-layer AI engineering system.
- CLAUDE.md (project memory): architecture, rules, commands, conventions
- Skills (reusable knowledge packs): testing workflows, code review guides, deployment patterns
- Hooks (deterministic guardrails): security checks, enforced rules, automation
- Agents (specialized sub-agents): breaking complex tasks into parallel workflows
The gap between average output and production-level results usually comes down to this setup rather than prompting. Properly structured, Claude Code stops behaving like a chatbot and starts acting like a real AI dev system.
