ICLR's official .bib template has listed Bengio twice since 2019
tughanbulut · reddit · 2026-10-04
A reference-checking researcher found that the sample .bib shipped with the ICLR 2027 template lists the Deep Learning book as "Goodfellow, Bengio, Courville, Bengio" with a nonexistent volume 1 — and GitHub history shows the error has been there since the 2019 template.
- Harmless but funny, coming a year after ICLR's hallucinated-reference desk rejects
- Author also spotted contradictory page limits: the formatting section says max 9 pages at submission, while the camera-ready section and FAQ say "identical with the submission version (10 pages)" — 9 pages is the safe bet for revisions after Nov 5
