Anil Seth pushes back on Steve Yegge: denying machine consciousness isn't human exceptionalism
anilkseth · x · 2026-10-03
Replying to Steve Yegge's claim that everyone who denies machine consciousness is just rationalizing human specialness, consciousness researcher Anil Seth says this is far from the truth: there are many (in his view compelling) arguments against silicon/digital machine consciousness that don't rely on human exceptionalism or carbon chauvinism. He points to a just-published BBS target paper with 50 open commentaries from all perspectives plus his own response as the entry point to the much richer academic debate.
