VC accuses OpenAI of skynet-style regulatory capture, says Anthropic's version is more subtle
StewartalsopIII · x · 2026-10-03
Investor Stewart Alsop III argues in a long post that OpenAI exploits simple "skynet" fear narratives to pursue regulatory capture. He says he fully believes Anthropic is sincere in believing an LLM could be conscious — but compares that sincerity to the Heaven's Gate cult, calling it a more sophisticated form of regulatory capture driven by unconscious desires under deluded assumptions. He adds that any government, Trump's or the Democrats', would create absurd bureaucratic machinery around a supposedly conscious AI.
