Devs open-source Lemma, a shared team AI teammate built as the anti-OpenAI Dots
ironmanfromebay · reddit · 2026-10-02
A developer who couldn't short OpenAI open-sourced Lemma, the opposite of Dots/Grok Bot: instead of a generic personal bot for one person, it lets teams build their own shared AI teammate for their actual job — and he claims it's now better than both.
Teams using it: a VC firm reviewing deals, a finance team checking reimbursements, large manufacturers doing product support and project management.
What a dot doesn't have:
- Whole team shares one instance: send a link, everyone works on the same records; one to fix, not 40 to sync.
- It knows who's asking: only the owner can approve refunds; new hires get routed to the owner.
- It improves with use: corrections become standing rules for everyone.
- It has a desk: its own app with queue and approvals, or reach it via Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Teams or email.
On pricing: OpenAI spent its $100 on models and needs products to earn it back; Lemma doesn't train models, costs $10, open-source version is free. Describe the job and it gets built; Mac app and hosted version available, ten ready-made templates. Missing: the blobs and phone calls.
