Daily-driving the Dots agent: 13 real use cases, local computer jumps, and papercuts
cedric_chee · x · 2026-10-02
Cedric Chee shares an updated month-long review of the Dots agent, after initially calling it "undercooked" and failing his mum test. He now daily-drives it across 13 real use cases:
- Reminders, todo lists, knowledge base upkeep
- Chores like prep for government service visits
- Summarizing Slack, Discord, and WhatsApp groups/communities
- Email triage, local event notifications, monitoring
- Thought partner and chief-of-staff coordination
- "Glue" integrations like Twitter ops: searching and triaging bookmarks instead of letting them rot
Interesting finding: Dots can jump from its cloud computer to his local machine for tasks requiring computer use (Discord/WhatsApp control) — and those tasks count against his Codex usage limit.
Papercuts remain: can't fetch linked threads, no official WhatsApp plugin (computer-control workaround), high latency, and too few spark-joy moments.
