serve-sim: open-source tool turns iOS Simulators into eyes and hands for coding agents
lucasmeijer · x · 2026-10-02
Evan Bacon open-sourced serve-sim (2.8k GitHub stars), "the npx serve of Apple Simulators": running npx serve-sim exposes a booted iOS Simulator at http://localhost:3200 so agent tools like Codex, Cursor, or Claude Desktop can see and control it — fixing the pain of iOS soft keyboards tripping up agents.
- Under the hood, a small Swift helper captures the simulator framebuffer via simctl io and exposes it as an MJPEG stream plus a WebSocket control channel, topped by a React preview UI. No Xcode plugin, no app instrumentation.
- Features include 60 FPS in-browser video, swipe-from-bottom home gesture support, and hosting locally, over LAN, or on a remote Mac via tunneling.
