Cloudflare opens Artifacts beta: a Git-native filesystem for building the next GitHub for agents
neal_lathia · x · 2026-10-02
Cloudflare announced that Artifacts, its versioned filesystem that speaks Git and scales to millions of repos, is now in open beta on the Workers Paid plan.
Key capabilities:
- Create and fork repos programmatically from a Worker
- Issue tokens and clone with any standard Git client
- Event hooks on every push, so agents can react to changes
Cloudflare's framing: GitHub was built for humans writing code, but the next wave is hundreds or thousands of agents working on the same codebase simultaneously. Artifacts provides the low-level primitives (versioned storage, Git operations, agent context) and invites developers to build the coordination, review, and merge layers on top — i.e., "build the next GitHub."
