Schmidt Sciences names 28 new AI2050 Fellows backed by up to $16 million

Schmidt Sciences announced the fifth cohort of AI2050 Fellows: 28 researchers (22 early-career, 6 senior) receiving up to $16 million over three years to work on long-term AI problems. The program has now backed 127 fellows across 50 institutions in 11 countries, with up to $80 million committed. Projects include benchmarking self-improving AI capabilities and risks, using AI to model never-recorded but physically possible extreme weather, and AI-guided immune cell engineering for cancer and autoimmune disease.
