OpenAI gifts developers a 'Codex Micro' hardware device, first units shown off
OpenAIDevs · x · 2026-10-02
OpenAI's developer account has sent a physical device called Codex Micro to a developer, who unboxed it and traced the project back to an ESP32 build made with Astra.
It's the first time Codex branding has appeared on physical hardware; specs and intended use remain undisclosed, with the units appearing to be gifts rather than a product launch.
