AI filmmaking debate shifts from best model to who owns the production pipeline

Laurence Moroney argues the AI filmmaking conversation is moving from "which model?" to "who owns the pipeline?", citing Sept 30 announcements:
- Utopai Studios launched PAI, a production platform that breaks screenplays into scenes/shots, maintains a Production Library of characters/locations/objects, offers AI production assistants grounded in project material, and hands off footage to Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. Its own text-to-video model Utopai X reportedly ranked No. 2 globally with Elo 1,150 on Artificial Analysis' Text-to-Video leaderboard with audio (Sept 29, self-reported). Both tools are in use on Utopai's own productions, including Mike Bender's upcoming animated feature.
- Dubai's MForMedia rebuilt its Arabic-content workflow around AI.
- Veteran Hollywood producer Todd Garner has three AI-assisted shorts out Christmas Eve.
The key differentiator, Moroney argues, is meeting editors where they actually work — NLE handoff matters more than leaderboard scores, and creators should learn every stage of the pipeline.
