Roboticist Argues Real-World Robot Performance Is Never Dominated by Numerics
ZeYanjie · x · 2026-10-01
Roboticist qiayuanliao argues that real-world robotics performance is rarely dominated by numerics: with friction, inertia mismatch, state-dependent friction and sensor noise, cranking up gains or inverse dynamics falls short, and online disturbance observers/adaptive controllers rest on strong assumptions that don't scale. His proposal: if we can simulate effectively, solve these problems offline — for humanoids and tabletop 6DOF arms alike.
