An instructor shares an approach to teaching students to use ChatGPT well for academic writing instead of banning it: students develop their own argument first, then ask AI to challenge their reasoning, surface hidden assumptions, ask questions, suggest unconsidered counterarguments, or give clarity feedback on finished drafts — keeping the intellectual work with the student.
They also plan to show deliberately bad prompts alongside good ones, to discuss where "AI supporting my thinking" becomes "AI doing my thinking." The post asks the community for proven prompts and workflows, and especially for prompts that sound educational but in practice do too much of the work.
