Peter Diamandis argues about what counts as a moat in the age of AI. A friend running a nine-figure AI services business admitted he has "no conviction in his long-term moats" — including the parts working best.
Key claims: patents, proprietary code, distribution, and even Nvidia's CUDA — the most valuable software moat on Earth — are all being invented around by AI. An AI that can read every patent ever filed can likely design around every patent. He recalls a decade-old conversation with Astro Teller and Steve Jurvetson concluding that patents will be worth far less in an AGI/ASI world.
