Japan's O-ID unveiled Modular, a wheeled, modular humanoid robot aimed squarely at industrial use: 172 cm tall, 70 kg, 30 DoF, 16 kg payload, with an omnidirectional base suited to factories, warehouses and inspection.
Its headline feature is modularity — the robot splits into nine replaceable modules, so a faulty arm or hand can be swapped on-site instead of shipping the whole robot back. About 85% of its weight comes from components made by Japanese SMEs, tying it to the domestic supply chain. It runs Linux/ROS and lets customers choose their own AI models rather than being locked in. Sales in Japan are planned from 2027 at around $70,000.
