Arm expands Total Design to Physical AI with 80+ partners and a robotics capability framework

On September 8, Arm extended its Total Design collaborative model into Physical AI and put a Robotics Capability Framework on the table as one of the first shared projects, following its dedicated Physical AI business launched at CES 2026.
The ecosystem convenes partners across software stacks, AI models, sensors, compute hardware, virtual platforms, and digital twins so OEMs and startups can cut integration risk and move from PoC to deployment. Over 80 companies joined publicly, including AWS, Hugging Face, NXP, Siemens, Unitree, QNX, and Liquid AI. The framework offers a six-level vocabulary tied to latency, compute placement, power, determinism, and safety—still evolving, not a compliance badge. The author argues physical systems fail at the seams, and a shared platform lets parties align before expensive surprises emerge late in a program.
