The author argues Jev is a neat generalized decision-maker, but as a paid API it offers no privacy, mediocre speed, and nearly every use case has a faster local alternative.
Inspired to wire Jev into their Hyprland desktop, they then realized they'd already built the wheel: embedding-command-search, an embedding model with a "head" — predefined passages that partition high-dimensional meaning-space so the position of a command determines the action.
They tested every use case they could think of, built interactive examples, and published a write-up so readers can make informed decisions about their own automated decision-making: jev-vs-local.
