Stanford's Paper2Agent turns scientific papers into AI agents that collaborate and make discoveries

A Stanford Medicine team led by James Zou and postdoc Jiacheng Miao built Paper2Agent, which converts any scientific manuscript—including text, figures, and data—into an interactive AI agent that can answer questions, run analyses, and collaborate with other paper-agents to make new discoveries. Zou frames it as reimagining centuries of manuscript publishing: knowledge becomes an active, queryable collaborator rather than a passive artifact.
