A new report by Epoch AI researchers David Roodman and Luke Emberson finds that at a given performance level, AI costs have fallen 47% per quarter since 2023 — roughly 4x faster than DNA sequencing, 6x faster than compute, 18x faster than lithium batteries, and far faster than electricity costs declined (up to 1973). The data suggests AI diffusion and economic impact may outpace historical analogues.
