Starlink tested as rural 4G backhaul in Nigeria, a first for NuRAN's network
XFreeze · x · 2026-09-23
NuRAN Wireless, working with Infratel, is deploying Starlink as backhaul at a rural telecom site in Nigeria — the first LEO integration in its network. It lets remote 4G towers connect to the wider network without waiting for fiber or costly microwave links. NuRAN has 5,000+ sites under contract across Africa, and a successful pilot could extend the model to other African markets where Starlink operates, positioning it as backbone infrastructure for rural telecom rather than just a direct-to-consumer service.
