Dev Builds Test-Scenario Framework to Fix Sprite/3D Z-Ordering in AI-Game Workflows
tomjohndesign · x · 2026-09-23
While building the game Pilgrimage with AI, the developer kept hitting sprite/3D asset z-ordering bugs, so they built a framework that generates test scenarios, lets them manually reorder objects, and exports all test outputs as JSON for their AI (astra) to tune the sorting logic. Ordering must shift as characters turn relative to each other, and assets are shape groups sharing placement rather than single sprites. Best results so far, though dense crowds still need work.
