Using tooling he built himself, the author planned a minimum-distance running route on Angel Island: after three local test runs refining the method (popularity heat maps, satellite maps, a web app fetching trail data from an API), the planned route came to 23.8 miles with 4.4 miles of retraced trails. The actual run was 24.6 miles including detours, finished in about five hours.
