Uncle Bob on AI risk: install guardrails but push as hard and fast as we can
mark_k · x · 2026-09-21
Robert Martin (Uncle Bob), author of Clean Code, shared his take on AI risk:
- AI has risks, like every tool including power tools, so guardrails should be implemented.
- But guardrails don't mean slowing down or stopping — "we go as hard and as fast as we can," acknowledging risk while mitigating it.
- He frames it as human nature: "That's what humans do."
The take represents the accelerate-with-guardrails stance common among veteran engineers, in contrast to calls for pausing AI development.
