Grady Booch: Contemporary AI is better called statistical intelligence

Software engineering pioneer Grady Booch argues that contemporary AI is perhaps better named "statistical intelligence". He adds that cybernetics as promoted by Norbert Wiener—built on principles like homeostasis and communication architecture—is orthogonal to the nature of LLMs, meaning today's LLM-based AI inherits little from cybernetics' core ideas.
