Analyst's AI market data outdated: TogetherAI tokens up 10x from Q1 to Q2
xeophon · x · 2026-09-21
xeophon flags two flaws in a widely shared market analysis of AI inference providers:
- It uses Q1 or earlier data for open-model providers: TogetherAI's token volume grew >10x from Q1 to Q2, Fireworks 3x, Baseten is now as large as the other two, and OpenRouter >5x — severely understating open providers' growth.
- It is dismissive of Google, which owns the second most successful consumer AI app after ChatGPT, plus AI Overviews that indirectly contribute to revenue.
