ICLR hits 60,000+ submissions, triple last year's count, with ~42,300 expected to reach review

After submitting to ICLR, the author reports over 60,000 registered submissions as of the abstract deadline — vs 19,525 when last year's cycle started, roughly a 3x jump.
Using last year's stats: 779 (3.99%) were desk-rejected, 5,042 (25.82%) withdrawn, and 13,763 (70.49%) reached a final decision. Assuming similar trends, this year's cycle should yield 42,300 valid peer-reviewed submissions — with the eligible reviewer pool roughly unchanged.
Her takeaway: the practice of doing and publishing research has fundamentally changed. A decade ago, researchers spent weeks or months understanding a problem space before forming mature views; the current pace is entirely different, with AI visibly accelerating paper production.
