Jev, an Action-Based AI Model, Excels in Narrow Tasks but Crashes in Minecraft
MattVidPro · youtube · 2026-09-19
MattVidPro tested Jev, a new model from Typesafe built around taking actions instead of generating token streams, available via OpenRouter and Vercel AI Gateway. It's extremely fast and cheap in the right harness, performing well in simple action spaces, computer use, and robotics — but broke down when given an open-ended Minecraft setup built with Astra. Community demos and a live Twitch run (jevplaysMinecraft) show the same limits.
